For the 3 years I've lived there, there have been 3 managers. Communications have been difficults due to the constant changing of managers and staffs. I couldn't moved away due to the lack of physical health and finance from moving. I planned that my next move would be my permanent one in which I did. I had to live at this apartment due to a disability access that they had and was not available with other apartments in the area. But boy, looks like I've been punished for it too. No, I wouldn't recommend this complex to anyone due to the following reason. My problem came when I moved out. I did everything that an ideal tenant would do. I gave them a 30-day notice, paid up the last month rent (never was late on payments) and cleaned up the place. Still, I was charged $340 for cabinet scratches in the kitchen and in the bathroom in which I thought it was part of the wear and tear that the apartment allowed. Since my leasing wasn't up at the time of the charges, I told them that I would take care of the scratches myself. They denied my re-entry to the apartment and claimed that they've changed the locks. I told the manager that it was illegal for her not to let me in the apartment when the lease was not up, (Under Texas tenant's protection law). She claimed that I've returned all the keys and that it was now theirs, she stated that it was in the contract. It was true in which I've explained to her that I didn't returned all the keys and that the leasing agent that took the keys knew I still have one key so I could return to the apartment. The manager argued that she didn't know anything about it. I explained that it didn't matterred if she knew about it or not and that the office leasing agent represented the leasing office and its company, that should have been enough. Next, she argued that I should have a written statement stating that I still have one key. She also argued that I should have had a walk-through when I returned the keys. I explained that I did requested one at that time but it was denied since it was a Saturday and they only do walk-through from Mon-Fri. I didn't know and again, she argued that she had told me while back. Truly, I didn't know and I didn't remember even having that conversation with her. I asked her back how come I didn't have that statement in writing? All and all, here I am agreed to fix up the apartment to the way it was but was denied my rights to do so. Not to mentioned that scratches are not part of the wear and tear that were supposed to be allowed. Now, I'm left with the confusion of what is considered to be wear and tear. It looks like that they're trying to make money while you live there and when you move out also. Most people doesn't even bother fighting back and so they get away with things as such. Be aware of the high cost they don't considered as wear and tear and know your rights as a tenant. Don't let them tell you otherwise! Check out Texas laws that protects you, the tenant. Remember, there are plenty of nicer apartments around in the same area for the same price and much newer too.
