| The Good: We moved in to these apartments when they were brand new. We were the first tenants in our unit. The floor plans are decent and the area was attractive (at least when we lived there). They're priced very well but are only avaible to people within a certain income bracket. At the time it was a nice area of town to be in so not a lot of criminal types around (although that seems to have changed somewhat). Our apartment was a great place to live and the best I've had so far when it comes to enjoying living within those 4 walls. They will return your full deposit if you make a good effort to clean your apartment.
The Bad: Management was insanely anal. They were always making up excuses to come into our apartment to check the "plumbing." Since we were the first tenants we also got stuck with all the problems that come from shoddy workmenship that was most likely due to a rushed construction schedule. We had several roof leaks (top floor apartment). Maintenance told us when they had constructed part of the roof, they removed some nails at which point they were supposed to fill those holes in before completing the shingling but it was never done. They had to replace a large section of ceiling sheetrock after a strong thunderstorm because of it. There is only one pet allowed per unit, including cats, dogs, rodents, fish, insects, reptiles, birds. You could not have a 2 hamsters and if you had one it would cost you a full pet deposit!! I was half expecting them to write me up for a lease violation if they found more than one native house cricket on my patio. No apartment before or since then that I've asked about pets even cares about anything other than cats and dogs. A couple of months after we moved in they installed giant speed bumps in the parking lots. They were so big that I would bang the bottom of my car even when I was rolling over it in neutral going 2mph or less. It defeated the purpose of installing them, being the safety of all the young kids who played unsupervised in the parking lots. Everybody, myself included, drove around the speed bumps whenever possible. If there were children playing in empty parking spaces in between cars you'd be right on top of them before you knew it (didn't happen personally but I saw the possibility of this happening because that's where they normally were and people still drove fast just not in a straight line). By the time we left, both our cars had serious damage to their suspensions due to these speed bumps. The parking was horrible at times, especially the weekends. Alot of teenagers lived here due to the close proximity to langham creek and many large neighborhoods. I personally graduated from high school while living here. But that means all these people had huge parties all the time with tons of friends and their cars. One specific time we had gone grocery shopping at Walmart late at night (no huge crowds, much more bearable in the wee hours) and came home to find only ONE parking space left in the entire complex and it was on the complete opposite side from where we lived. So if we had come 15 minutes later we would literally have no where to park unless we parked on a fire lane. We had several power outtages exclusive to the complex in the middle of summer and the fire alarms throughout the property would good off for no reason for 30-40 minutes.
The main reason we decided not to renew our lease above all else was the management. It was like living under a facist regime. Some of it was needed to make sure some of the less cleaner tenants keep up their units and didn't totally trash them but it was a bit out of control and I didn't feel a lot of privacy since I'd come home from work and find notices on my door that they'd come to randomly check something in our apartment that didn't even have problems. Assuming the atmosphere and upkeep are roughly the same as it was when we lived there, as long as you're willing to live with some of the more unfortunate members of society and nosy management, this is a decent place to live. |
